About Harbour Island, Bahamas

Both Eleuthera and Harbour Island are noted for miles of powder pink and white sand beaches and quaint colonial style villages. The islands were originally settled by Loyalist who fled the United States in the late 1700’s around the time of the American war of Independence preferring to remain British. These early settlers influenced much of the island’s architecture and way of life. Visitors to Harbour Island are reminded of quaint New England fishing villages or Key West with the Georgian style wood frame buildings, wood shingle roofs, dormer windows, covered verandahs and narrow streets. It is interesting to note that many of the charming wooden homes in Key West were actually shipped board-by-board from the Bahamas and re-erected there.
