Welcome to England

England is located on the island of Great Britain, northwest of continental Europe. Often referred to as a nation in its own right, England is part of the United Kingdom (along with Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), and constitutes a majority of the UK’s population with over 50 million residents. England is connected to the European mainland by the Channel Tunnel, which runs underneath the English Channel, connecting Folkestone, Kent, England with Coquelles in Northern France.
One of England’s attributes is its landscape; many people who relocate to England are drawn to the region’s combination of rocky cliffs and beaches along its coastline, as well as its low mountains and green rolling hills such as those found in the Lake District and the Cotswolds, and the characteristic miles of heather moorlands in the North Yorkshire Moors. To compliment its natural beauty, England’s homes, buildings, and internationally treasured heritage sites stand as testaments to the country’s contributions in the world of architecture. Between grand castles and forts, cathedrals big and small, and homes that exemplify Tudor, English Baroque, Georgian, and Gothic Revival architecture at their finest, England is a land that is meant to be seen.
England’s importance in the world is undeniable; its fingers of influence have touched nations all around the globe, in every aspect of life—from language, literature, and politics to industry, science, and pop culture. There are few places in the world that transition so seamlessly between the historic and the modern, the rural and the urban without losing sight of a combined heritage and national pride.
