La Cañada Flintridge, California is nestled at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, to the Northeast of Glendale and to the Northwest of Pasadena. During the Spanish era, it was known as Rancho la Cañada, or Ranch of the Gorge. In 1843, the land was granted to Ignacio Coronel, a Mexican school teacher from Los Angeles.
In 1976, two unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, La Cañada and Flintridge incorporated to form the City of La Cañada Flintridge, so its residents could control its own destiny. It has a small town and rural feel, with the downtown shopping and restaurant area running mainly along Foothill Boulevard. Its proximity to the foothills offers residents miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Many are attracted to the city due to its highly honored and sought-after public school system, which consistently ranks at the top of student assessment lists. Area residents find being close to major freeways, airports and the business districts of Los Angeles and Burbank as not only a convenience, but a must.
La Cañada Flintridge, California is home to Descanso Gardens, a 160 acre woodland garden in the midst of the California chaparral. Best known for its 60,000 camellia shrubs and 4,000 plus rose bushes planted among a California live oak forest, Descanso Gardens offers a fragrant and joyful respite from today’s hustle and bustle.
Civic pride and volunteerism are demonstrated each year on New Year’s Day at the Rose Parade. La Cañada Flintridge is one of six cities that build a Rose Parade float relying entirely on volunteer help.
La Cañada Flintridge is considered a top-tier real estate market with a median home price of $1,380,000 or so.
