Steamboat Springs, a Rocky Mountain town located in the northwest corner of Colorado, is world-renowned for its top-rated ski slopes and rejuvenating hot springs. A key figure in bringing Steamboat Springs to this status was Carl Howelsen, a Norwegian who in 1913, came to area and introduced the sport of ski jumping. A visionary for the town, Howelsen built a jump on what it now referred to as Howelsen Hill, and launched Steamboat Springs career in ski recreation. In 1963, builder and designers Jim Temple and John Fetcher, brought Steamboat Springs further into prominence by establishing The Steamboat Ski Resort, which now brings over a million visitors each season.
With the moniker of “Ski Town USA,” one would expect living in Steamboat Springs to be like living in a theme park, but the over 9,000 residents will testify that Steamboat Springs is nothing like other resort towns. Holding onto its strong ranching heritage, Steamboat Springs has a true Western atmosphere and small town hospitality.
Real estate in Steamboat Springs, CO includes anything from cabins tucked away in the mountains to luxury urban-esque lofts and condominiums at the foot of the resort. The new development that is occurring at a rapid pace in Steamboat Springs has the intent of bringing the face of Old Town Steamboat into the 21st century without sacrificing its Western feel.
