Archer - One of the Oldest Towns in Florida

Archer enjoys a rich history, and is one of the oldest towns in Florida, settled in 1885. Historically known for its cotton and orange crops, Archer is still surrounded by agriculture, which now also includes corn, sugarcane, peanuts and cattle. Archer citizens celebrate Yulee Day in midsummer, an occasion to honor David Levy Yulee, the town’s most famous resident and first state senator, and the African Fall Harvest in November. Of particular historic interest here is T. Gilbert Pearson Day, honoring an Archer resident who was a founder of the Audubon Society. Held in November, this celebration is enjoyed by recreational bird-watchers and scholars alike.
