Punta Gorda, FL is Spanish for “fat point” and is located on a blossoming peninsula extending into Charlotte Harbor on one side and the Peace River on the other. Drive across the bridge at sunset and you will see why so many people choose to live in Punta Gorda.  Punta Gorda was founded in 1887 and is the only city in Charlotte County, 100 miles south of Tampa on the Gulf Coast between Sarasota and Ft. Myers.  Punta Gorda is a beautiful waterfront & boating community with several stunning oceanfront homes.  This city was rated as one of “Florida’s Small Town Gems” in the April 2001 issue of Florida Trend magazine. Today, this still holds true!
 
Punta Gorda and Charlotte County’s investment in education has provided a complete range of learning opportunities that is matched by few other places. About 300 students a year graduate from Charlotte High, the oldest high school in the county. Other schools in the area include: Sallie Jones Elementary School, Edison Community College, Florida Gulf Coast University and IMPAC University, to name a few.

A good portion of the Punta Gorda area is dotted with historic buildings that date back to the early 1900’s and gives signs of the city’s rich history. One of the hallmarks of Punta Gorda is its plentiful offering of clubs, organizations and civic groups. There are also two international airports within 45 minutes, making all areas accessible to most major markets. The city of Punta Gorda is a rich mix of cultures and age groups as families, retirees and winter residents all share in the beauty and contributions of this small, friendly Florida city.
