Known for its protected harbor, beaches and lighthouses, Scituate, Massachusetts is a quintessential New England seaside community. Founded in 1636, Scituate has transformed from a summer haven to a pleasant year round residential community. It remains a summer destination for many in the local area and beyond. Scituate harbor supports an active fishing fleet of lobster boats, trawlers and charters as well as two yacht clubs. There are three business districts, North Scituate, Humarock and the Harbor, which provide ample opportunity for residents to explore local businesses and what craftsmen have to offer. Scituate schools are considered the best in the area; Standard and Poor’s School Evaluation Services recognized the schools in 2006 as one of 30 “outperforming” school districts in the state. Located on the South Shore, Scituate offers easy access to major routes including 3A and 123 as well as a commuter rail station slated to begin service in mid 2007 and commuter boat service from Hingham.
