A truly historic town sporting the zip code 01776, Sudbury was settled by colonists in 1683 and incorporated as a town a year later. Today more than 18,000 people call it home. Over the years, Sudbury has been home to many famous people including automobile mogul Henry Ford, baseball greats Babe Ruth and Dennis Eckersley, as well as, the famed poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn opened in 1716 (as Howe’s Tavern) and still remains the oldest continuously operating inn in the country. Also included on the compound are Ford’s Grist Mill, the school house of “Mary’s Little Lamb” fame and the Martha-Mary Chapel.
Sudbury is renowned for its outstanding school system which includes a state of the art regional high school, Lincoln-Sudbury RHS, which opened its doors in 2005 and new elementary and middle schools...all of which rival any private school in the state. Recently renovated, The Goodnow Public Library has one of the largest and most active volunteer groups in town. The Fairbank Center houses the Atkinson Pool, a gymnasium, the Senior Center and a Teen Center. In addition, sports advocates can take advantage of the updated baseball complex, tennis courts, bike paths, rail trail and conservation trails that go on for miles.
The town offers loads of amenities from shopping in unique specialty shops in Mill Village to larger more well known stores, doctors affiliated with reputable and well known Boston hospitals, award winning restaurants from all ethnicities and cozy coffee shops for a light luncheon. Being in such close proximity to Boston, locals can head into town to get their cultural fix for the day and be home in time to meet the school bus. The small town feeling can be experienced during the annual 4th of July parade featuring floats, local marching bands and fire engines or during the summer evening concerts complete with strawberry shortcake. All in all, Sudbury offers diversity in a country setting with urban amenities.
Sudbury, Massachusetts has an array of home styles ranging from beautiful Antique Farmhouses complete with barns and meandering stonewalls; some smaller Cape Cod and Ranch style homes on half acres; larger traditional Colonials on wooded acre lots in wonderful family neighborhoods; to newer construction which offers custom architectural designs and upscale amenities you can only dream of.
