Chelsea, Michigan is a growing city of about 4,500 located 15 miles west of Ann Arbor, offering all the charm of a small town within an easy drive of the amenities Ann Arbor has to offer.  Yet Chelsea is a destination in its own right, as home of the renowned Equity playhouse Purple Rose Theatre, and the Common Grill restaurant whose chef/owner has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation and Gourmet magazine.  Other Chelsea highlights include the Chelsea Center for the Arts, offering classes in visual and performing arts for all ages, the 20,000-acre Waterloo Recreation Area, and the fully accredited Chelsea Community Hospital, ranking in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide.  Leading employers include Chelsea Community Hospital, DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds, Sheridan Books, and Chelsea Milling Company (home of Jiffy Mix).

A variety of housing types are found in Chelsea.  The village center is comprised mainly of graceful frame homes dating from the mid-1800s and early 1900s.  At the edges of the village post-World War II one- and two-story homes, subdivisions built in the 60s and 70s, and several new developments currently under construction can be found.  Those who prefer condominiums have several options.  The housing needs of seniors are met with a variety of independent and assisted living options.  Average single family home price is $251, 921; average condominium price is $188,555.
