Currently Asbury Park, New Jersey boasts a population of approximately 20,000 people, and is one of New Jersey’s unique seashore communities, home to Hollywood legends and everyday Joes alike. Rock icon Bruce Springsteen brought much attention to Asbury Park when he released his debut album, “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” in 1973. Since then, the city has had a widespread reputation as having one of America’s best music scenes; in fact, USA Weekend recently ranked Asbury Park as one of the “Top 10 Places To Hear the Best of America’s Music.” The city is home to a number of intimate music venues, such as The Stone Pony and the Saint, which hosts many local musicians as well as big label artists. To commemorate the city’s musical heritage, the New Jersey Music Hall of Fame was established in Asbury Park in 2005. Overall, Asbury Park has an active and diverse arts community that supports a variety of galleries, festivals and events, such as the monthly First Sunday event, where many of the city’s galleries, studios, restaurants, and boutiques stay open late for residents to stroll, mingle, eat, and shop. Also, Asbury Park offers great summer recreation programs for students to learn theater, dance, music, and other arts.
