Lockland, Ohio was developed as an industrial community because of its location in the locks of the Miami-Erie Canal—now replaced by I-75. Some of the businesses here include Catanzaro Sons & Daughters Foodservice, Sawbrook Steel Castings, Amity Unlimited and Titan Distribution Services. Lockland has several green space and parks, including Gardner Park, which features soccer fields, basketball court, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a paved walking trail. Lockland is working to attract more families and young people; also companies to invest in order to create more jobs (several plants closed and plenty of jobs were lost). A 52-home subdivision is planned, which is sign of turnaround. (Thus far three single-family homes have been completed.) Residents have a strong pride in their community, which celebrated their 150th anniversary in 1999 and where a Clock Tower & Memorial Plaza had been installed to mark the occasion. There’s a Veterans Memorial, by the bandstand on the corner of Williams and Wyoming. Its school district: had its beginnings in 1851. Founded in 1794, Lockland was platted in 1828 by Nicholas Longworth and Lewis Howell.
