Oakley, Ohio is thriving and is becoming an upscale residential neighborhood with a nice selection of affordable, older, brick and frame houses on tree-lined streets. Row houses and mid-sized condos are adding to the housing options. Seven Hills Development Corp. is building an $18-million luxury condo development called The Lofts@ 1420 at the end of Allendale Road (priced from $740,000 up). More affordable condos are being developed on five acres at Marburg Square, from $249,000 to $600,000. Its business district, which will soon have a new streetscape featuring new sidewalks and curbs, offers specialty shops, galleries and fi ne restaurants, including BOCA, Kona Bistro and Habits. Aglamesis Ice Cream Parlor, opened in 1913, is here; as is the 20th Century Theater, popular site for concerts and special events. Oakley’s new Fresh Market is drawing crowds; as is its Cincinnati Center, housing Target, Sam’s and Meijer, Petsmart and Circuit City. Closson’s, an art & interior design retailer and once a downtown mainstay, will open this year at the space vacated by Hader Hardware. Oakley was once called Four Mile, an inn built in 1846 and was a popular rest stop for stagecoaches. It was incorporated in 1896 and annexed to the city in 1913.
