Reading, Ohio was named after a Pennsylvania community, home of its first residents, who came here in 1794. Its business district boasts a thriving bridal district. Brides from many parts of the world come and shop in Reading. The big deal here is the biotech research center on 56 acres. The old Marion Merrill Dow/Aventis site is now a biotech research campus housing Girindus America, Patheon Pharmaceuticals and the Genome Research Institute, a biotech medical research arm of the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. Some of the country’s best researchers and renowned scientists are working here to find cures for cancer, diabetes, heart and obesity. Reading attracts first-time homebuyers for its affordable, older homes on quiet streets. There are fine restaurants, public parks, swimming pools and top-rated schools. Reading Community School district: is a National Blue Ribbon School District. A private, all-girls school, Mount Notre Dame High School, is located here. Popular community events include Taste of Reading, Arts & Crafts Show and Big Band dance at Koenig Park. Golf, shopping, and the 755-acre Sharon Woods Park are all nearby. Reading became a city in 1931.
