With a city population of 6,500 and growing, a prosperous economy and convenient location, Gig Harbor averages only 37 inches of rainfall per year and a mild climate which compliments its affordable homes. It is only 45 minutes from Sea-Tac International Airport and an hour from downtown Seattle.

Named in 1841 by Captain Charles Wilkes after he took shelter from a storm in the small bay during his U.S. Exploring Expedition, Gig Harbor also attracted commercial fisherman and farmers from as far away as Norway, Sweden, and Croatia. In July of 1940, the first Narrows Bridge connecting Gig Harbor and the Peninsula with Tacoma was built.

State-of-the-art education is another important part of what sets Gig Harbor apart from most cities in Washington. The Peninsula School District includes fifteen schools, 9,200 students, grows annually between four and five percent and boasts an extensive history of academic accomplishments.
