The city of Sequim (pronounced “s’kwim”) is located along the Dungeness River at the base of the Olympic Mountains, on the north Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. The first European to arrive in the Dungeness Valley region was Spanish explorer Ensign Manuel Quimper, who entered the Strait of Juan de Fuca in 1790 but did not settle there.
