Welcome to Anchorage, Alaska

Located in the shadow of the Chugach Mountains and bordered by the Cook Inlet, Anchorage, Alaska isn't short on spectacular views. A city established in 1915 as a construction center for the Alaska Railroad, Anchorage continues to be a gateway to the rest of the state of Alaska. With a strong tourism industry in the summer, and many winter activities to keep you warm when the days grow colder, Anchorage is a city of constant change.

Anchorage became well established as a transportation hub of the world when it was designated a defense center during World War II. After the war, servicemen returned to Alaska with their families, drawn by the beauty and the prospects of “the Last Frontier.” The presence of the Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson Army Base add to the personality of the city, as they transfer troops in and out of the state.

While we have grown to over 250,000 inhabitants, Anchorage continues to maintain a small town feel. The Fur Rendezvous in the winter months is kicked off by a main street parade and fireworks show, and is highlighted by the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Alaskan's across the state are brought together as they follow the mushers on their journey north in this world-famous race. As days get longer and the fish start running, things really pick up in the summer. With hot fishing spots just a short drive out of town, the Anchorage Bowl is a fisherman's paradise. One of the hottest salmon spots in the area is just a short walk from downtown Anchorage.

As it has been for the last 200 years, Alaska will always be a place of new beginnings so if you're coming for a new job or a change of scenery, you'll find yourself feeling right at home in no time. Anchorage remains the state's cultural center, providing a great place to find new adventures and make new friends. Come and experience the Northern Lights, or get your line wet in search of the perfect salmon. Any way you look at it, Anchorage has it all.
