The Fur Rendezvous in the winter months is kicked off by a main street parade and fireworks show, and is highlighted by the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Alaskan's across the state are brought together as they follow the mushers on their journey north in this world-famous race. As days get longer and the fish start running, things really pick up in the summer. With hot fishing spots just a short drive out of town, the Anchorage Bowl is a fisherman's paradise. One of the hottest salmon spots in the area is just a short walk from downtown Anchorage.
