About South Mobile County, AlabamaMany retailers and professionals have made their homes in South Mobile County. Satsumas (from the tangerine family) were a major crop for the farmers until a bad freeze in 1924. Many of the farmers were financially ruined and left the area. Much of the land was then converted to pecan orchards, which still thrive in the area. Another important crop in the area is watermelon, and the annual Watermelon Festival draws thousands of visitors.
Bayou La Batre, ranked among the top 30 ports in the country, is noted for its seafood which is shipped all over the country.
