Living in Chickasaw, Alabama

Chickasaw, Alabama is located in north Mobile County between Prichard, Alabama and Saraland, Alabama. Chickasaw is an historical town built during World War I to build ships, but dates back to the 1700’s and named after the Chickasaw Indians.

Chickasha Bogue Park on the Chickasha Bogue creek is a popular destination for locals and tourists. Chickasaw is home to “Dr Hook and the Medicine Show” (Ray Sawyer). Celebrity Ray Shaw, born in Chickasaw in 1937, has a street named after him and attended Vigor High School. Mr. Shaw has sold over 28 million records in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Chickasaw is Alabama’s furthest deep water port in the area which accommodates ship vessels up to 600 feet, also serviced by CSX railroad systems.

Chickasaw is just south of the new ThyssenKrupp $3.7 billion steel plant underway and scheduled to open in 2010 employing approximately 2900 permanent jobs. The Dale Earnhardt, Jr. raceway track is scheduled to be built just north of Chickasaw. Chickasaw has a lot of history and many beautiful historical homes in the area. This sleepy town is surely becoming globally recognized.
