About Dauphin Island, AL

Dauphin Island, just as beautiful as name sounds! What a perfect place to live if you want to be on vacation even at home. Dauphin Island, Alabama is a semi-tropical Gulf Coast Barrier Island that offers two public beaches, ofcourse, many of its residents have a beach in their own back yard. Other public places of interest include a variety of community playgrounds and parks, including Cadillac Park. People come from all over to stay at the Island’s Campgrounds (with camper hook-ups) and to enjoy fishing on the Island’s 850’ long pier complete with lights for night time fishing and a concession stand, or to enjoy the Audubon Bird Sanctuary’s 160 acre trail with a fresh-water lake and a swamp. On the East end of the Island you can take a ferry ride, visit Fort Gains, and /or the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Ft Gains is a historic landmark. It was built in the 1800s and used in the Civil War, the Spanish-American Conflict, and both World War I and II. Dauphin Island Sea Lab and estuarium is Alabama’s marine science education and research laboratory serving 21 universities and teaching classes from kindergarten to graduate school. The Sea Lab also offers many public exhibits including a public aquarium. Of course, there is more to Dauphin Island than just its attractions. It’s has a surprisingly large assortment of residential areas including beach-front, bay-front, and non-water front neighborhoods and condos. The Island also offers its own restaurants, shops, and the cutest little red school house.
