Fishing in Dauphin Island, AL

Dauphin Island is home of the largest Fishing Rodeo in the United States, held the 3rd weekend of every July. The week before the main fishing rodeo is the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament, for children 15 and under. Both rodeos are great family events. For both rodeos, people come from all over to view the numerous species of fish caught and to see who broke records. The Fishing Rodeo kicks off on a Thursday evening with the famous “Liars Contest” of who can tell the best fish story- plus live entertainment!! The fishing begins early the next morning through Sunday evening. The event has given hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money, with the 2009 rodeo totaling prize packages of over $400,000. The group is very conservation minded and strives to teach good sportsmanship along with respect for the Gulf of Mexico.

Bienville Boulevard is the main street on the island running east and west with the water tower being a point of direction. The streets run alphabetically as well. The little red schoolhouse is another permanent fixture on the Island.
