More than 100 years ago, the Baldwin County Colonization Company encouraged immigrants to settle in the rural town of Elberta, Alabama. The rich farmland opened opportunities for many, and the largely German population worked hard to establish and maintain a pride in their community that is still present today.
Elberta’s leaders are forward-thinking, yet protective of the safe, gentle lifestyle its residents are accustomed to. A new municipal complex houses government and police offices as well as a senior center and community center with indoor recreation. Phased construction has begun on a 40-acre sports complex that includes a children’s playground and support amenities.
Twice each year, the immensely popular German Sausage Festival celebrates the Bavarian heritage with fresh German sausage, cold beer and plenty of booths and entertainment — at the same time raising money for the community-involved volunteer fire department.
Quality schools, medical offices, banks, restaurants and other community services — including a wonderful cheese farm! — make this an easy place to raise your family or retire. Nostalgic old farmhouses, adorable mid-century cottages and modern homes blend peacefully together in the friendly neighborhoods. Although just a short drive from gorgeous beaches, airports, historical attractions and more, the peaceful atmosphere of Elberta allows you to feel at home.
