Chilton County, Alabama is located centrally within the state. With the Coosa River forming the eastern border of the county and former portions of Perry, Bibb, Shelby, and Autauga counties comprising the some of the rest, Chilton County was created in 1868 by the state of Alabama. Presently, it covers about 700 square miles and accommodates the towns of Clanton, Jemison, Maplesville, Thorsby, Grantville, Verbena, and a portion of Calera. This historic county was honorably named after Judge William Parish Chilton, a former justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, as well as the Alabaman Representative in the First, Second, and Provisional Confederate Congresses from 1861 to 1865.
The Chilton County seat is Clanton. The county as a whole is incredibly well known for its peaches and is inhabited by about 40,000 people. The communities of this rural, yet quickly advancing county offer generous people, warm neighborhoods, and fantastic Southern hospitality. Located within a 50-mile radius of Montgomery, the Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Complex, and Birmingham, living here offers the best of country living with city bustle close by. Recreational activities constitute a large part of residents' spare time and consist of fishing, hunting and boating. Quaint parks and nearby national forest preserves make for endless walks, hiking, and playground time. If a quiet and fulfilling community rich in benevolence is what you are looking for, Chilton County is just the place for you.
