About Washington County, Alabama

Washington County is the oldest County in the State of Alabama, named after George Washington, 1st President of the United States. Since 2007 Washington County has become very well known throughout Alabama as well as the rest of the world. German Steel Company ThyssenKrupp chose the Mobile County/Washington County area to build a 3.7 billion steel plant. ThyssenKrupp looked at all areas in the United States before deciding on the Mobile County/Washington County area. ThyssenKrupp Steel which is located on Hwy 43 will employee about 29,000 workers over the construction period and will employee approximately 2700 permanent jobs when opened in late 2010.

Cities in Washington County area: Chatom, Deer Park, Fruitdale, Leroy, McIntosh, Millry, Vinegar Bend and Tibbie. Many of these areas represent prime hunting land and hunting camps owned by many from the Mobile and Baldwin County areas.
