Welcome to Columbus, GA

Columbus is expected to be one of the engines to restart the economy of Georgia when about 30,000 new residents settle in the West Georgia community by 2011. The transplants from the Armor School at Fort Knox will enjoy the sunny climate and warm and welcoming inhabitants when they relocate to Fort Benning to become part of the Army’s Maneuver Center of Excellence. While the “Home of the Infantry” has always provided an economic boost, international insurance giant AFLAC, credit card processor TSYS and other well- known companies are also headquartered in this vibrant and growing community.

Located on the Chattahoochee River, just a short drive from Florida’s Beaches or Georgia’s mountains, Columbus has been ranked the 4th “Best Place to Raise a Family" by Best Life magazine and the NBC’s Today Show. Columbus provides big-city excitement coupled with small-town charm and offers a wealth of recreational and cultural opportunities for both the participant and spectator. Major sports teams include the Cottonmouths hockey team and Lions indoor football team. Sports venues range from championship golf courses, tennis courts, regionally acclaimed soccer and softball fields. The Riverwalk provides abundant opportunities for walking, biking, and fishing. The city is home to the state theater of Georgia, a symphony orchestra, performing arts center, museum and world- class restaurants.
