Welcome to Jefferson County, Alabama

Jefferson County, Alabama is north-centrally located within the state and is the home of the bustling city of Birmingham. Other popular communities located within the county are Chalkville, Fairfield, Lipscomb, Forestdale, Trafford, Fultondale, Adamsville, Gardendale, Bessemer, Graysville, Homewood, McCalla, Brighton, Hoover, Brookside, Hueytown, Cahaba Heights, Irondale, Cardiff, Kimberly, Center Point, Leeds, Clay, Midfield, and Morris. These great suburbs of Birmingham provide short commutes and the more relaxed lifestyle and atmosphere of living just outside of a big city. They each bring their own quality of life to the Jefferson County scene.

Graysville offers a 3 course golf experience through Mountain View Golf Course with their red, white, and blue courses. Brookside, once a mining town populated mostly by residents of Czechoslovakian and other Eastern European descent, continues to celebrate the heritage of its citizens with an annual Russian Food Festival. Leeds is a quickly progressing city with the kind of town pride you don't find very often these days. Lying at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and along one of Alabama's finest scenic byways, Leeds, Alabama is proud to be among the lovely communities of Jefferson County so many people call home. Take a drive down Hueytown's main road, Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive, and remember the NASCAR drivers that use to call this town home. The Alabama Gang included Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Davey Allison, Clifford Allison, Neil Bonnett and Charles “Red” Farmer.

Venture down to Homewood and take part in the great shopping and dining of this up and coming city. Browse through unique shops and boutiques as well as large chains and department stores in the amiable neighborhoods of Edgewood, Soho Square, Colonial Brookwood Village, and Wildwood. After a day of shopping, delight in a late lunch or evening of dining at one of Homewood's ninety area restaurants and eateries. Choose any cuisine and you'll find a restaurant to suit it here among the local cafes and cantinas.

As a whole, Jefferson County was established in 1819 and named in honor of the prestigious Thomas Jefferson. It covers 1,119 square miles and operates as its own entity in more ways than most counties do. Jefferson County holds two courthouses and maintains a limited form of home rule government.
