The History of Bald Head Island, NCBald Head Island is a small village in North Carolina located east of the Cape Fear River in Brunswick County. Located near the quaint mainland town of Southport and close to the popular cities of Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, Bald Head Island is accessible only by private boat or passenger ferry. Once on the Island, you will quickly note that there are no cars or other personal vehicles allowed. Only the use of golf carts, bicycles, and good old fashioned walking will get you where you want to go.
Built in 1817, North Carolina’s oldest lighthouse, Old Baldy, still stands on the Island as a historical marker and reminder of the Island’s compelling and intriguing roots.
