Welcome to Bessemer, Alabama

Bessemer, Alabama is located 15 miles southwest of Birmingham and 35 miles northeast of Tuscaloosa. Also known as “The Marvel City” due to its quick expansion following its incorporation in 1887, Bessemer provides a community of diversity and progressive commerce. Originally established by Henry DeBardeleben, a steel and iron tycoon, the city has seen decades of forward thinking and humanity. After a huge industrial catastrophe in the mid-80s, Bessemer picked up the pieces and continues to be acknowledged for its economic growth. Currently the city is populated by about 30,000 people.

Being located so close to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Bessemer, Alabama offers a small city environment with the advantages of rural living. The housing market reflects this by offering homes and properties ranging from as low as $50,000 to a very affordable $200,000 on average. Local attractions include the very popular VisionLand, a local amusement park offering Splash Beach Water Park, Magic Adventure Theme Park and Celebration Street. WaterMark Place is the newest addition to Bessemer and provides residents and visitors with a 200,000 square foot outdoor outlet mall and dining. Learn about the history of Bessemer at the Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park and the Hall of History museum. Oak Mountain State Park is nearby, and lends over 9,940 acres of all kinds of terrain to its neighbors.
