Blue Mountain Beach is centrally located along scenic highway 30-A between Destin and Panama City Beach, Florida. It is part of the South Walton Beach area of Florida’s panhandle and is one of the highest points on the Gulf Coast.
Old Indian legend tells that Blue Mountain got its name from the blue haze you would see at dawn on the hills. The peaks are covered with lush vegetation and purplish wild blue lupine with fuzzy blue leaves. In the morning haze, the flowers give the appearance of blue mountains on the beach.
This area is the start of the Eastern Lake Hike/Bike Trail, which will take you past coastal dunes, pine forests and through the other South Walton beach communities. Blue Mountain Beach has several lakes that offer excellent fishing, kayaking and wildlife viewing.
Blue Mountain Beach, Florida is an unspoiled, quaint resort community. It is a low crime area, and for the buyer or renter, offers various choices of nearby housing, local schools, and a few commercial businesses.
