High Tech Employment in Boulder, COThe American Electronics Association (AeA) recently ranked Boulder as the #2 city in the nation for its percentage of workers employed in high-tech work. And the city also had the 6th highest high-tech wages in the study.
No surprise … the San Jose/Silicon Valley area led the nation in concentration of high-tech workers in 2006, with 286 high-tech workers per 1000 private sector workers. What is surprising is that for a city little more than 1/10th the size of San Jose/Silicon Valley, Boulder had 230 high-tech workers per 1000. Larger cities such as Huntsville, AL, Durham, NC and Washington DC rounded out the top 5 cities in the ranking.
Elsewhere in Colorado, Colorado Springs had 122 tech workers per 1000, and Denver had 78 per 1000. In 2006 the tech industry in the combined Boulder-Denver metro area employed 111,100. (80,500 Denver and 30,500 Boulder). Additionally, Boulder added 300 tech workers in 2005 while Denver shed a net 14 workers.
