Aptos evolved from a Native American Indian village to a Mexican cattle rancho. Next it was purchased by Claus Spreckels, the sugar millionaire, to raise thoroughbred horses. Then it became a lumber town, an apple processing center, and ultimately the beautiful resort town that it is today. The community of Aptos includes areas known as Rio Del Mar, Seacliff, and Seascape. It is located in Santa Cruz County on the coast of Monterey Bay. It is a short drive to the neighboring communities of Capitola and Santa Cruz, and about 30 minutes to Monterey and Carmel. It is also adjacent to the Santa Cruz Mountains' Winery Region.

Aptos has beautiful beaches where you can swim, fish, surf and sail. Camping is available at New Brighton State Beach and RV sites at Seacliff State Beach. Nicene Marks State Park offers a scenic forest with great trails for running, walking, hiking and bike riding. You will also want to visit the Regional Park Polo Grounds, Sports Fields, and Dog Park. Annual events include the 4th of July World’s Shortest Parade and Music in the Park, Blues Festival, and other events throughout the year.

Aptos is the home to Seascape Resort, Seascape Golf Course, and tennis and sports clubs. Fine and casual dining is available throughout the community.
