Dixon, CA is the agricultural hub of Solano County and nearby communities. Dixon’s agriculture is rich with tomato production as its number one crop. These are grown by local farmers such as, Robben Ranch Farms, Gons Farms and the Gill Ranch along with many others. The tomatoes are processed locally by Campbell’s Soup Company which is very committed to Dixon’s growth.
Dixon is nationally known for its sheep production and Superior Farms Meat Packing is one of its largest employers. Dixon has been coined Lamb Town U.S.A., which also has a Festival with the same name celebrated for the last 22 years. Dixon is also home to California’s oldest Fair, The Dixon May Fair, still going after 133 years strong. It is held each year, on the week of Mother’s Day. The festivities are kicked off by a large parade that starts in historic downtown Dixon and brings in big name entertainers such as Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood.
Genentech (biotechnology corporation), Cardinal Health, Gymboree, Superior Farms Meat Packing, Campbell’s Soup and many local farms have enormously contributed to Dixon’s growth.
With the close proximity to the University of Davis, Dixon offers housing for many college professionals as well as the San Francisco Business commuters.
Due to the large business growth in Dixon, developers have planned for two thousand more single family homes. Many of the homes will be located within close proximity of the new state of the art, solar assisted High school. One can still purchase a classic Victorian home to the more modern styles.
