Glendora is located approximately 23 miles East of Los Angeles and is nestled against the Foothill Mountains. The City is known as the “Pride of the Foothills,” and as “Tree City USA.” Glendora truly lives up to those names. Glendora started out as an agricultural community, when it was founded in 1874. It has grown into a sought-after bedroom community, with a diverse housing stock and a consistently highly ranked public school system. Today, the residents are from many walks of life and its housing stock is equally diverse, from homes, townhomes and condominiums to mobile home parks. The City has many tranquil neighborhoods with large estates, to early 1920's style bungalows, to multiple family homes.
The Angeles National Forest is directly North of the City, which adds to the feeling of tranquility, peacefulness and nature at one’s beg and call. For several decades, Glendora has also been designated “Tree City USA,” for it is home to 25,000 trees. One of its most unique trees is located in Big Tree Park. This is an Australian Moreton Bay fig, and is second largest only to one found in Santa Barbara, CA. The Glendora Australian Moreton Bay fig has a branch spread of 110 feet and a circumference of 9.5 feet. It truly provides lots of shade, which the gentleman who planted it in the 1880's, Edgar J. Owens, intended.
