Martinez, CA is a small city with a population of about 37,000 residents located in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the 1800s, the city was booming with the gold rush (a ferry boat took off from Martinez and took anxious searchers to gold country) and was a major shipping town. Today, it is a city with a strong sense of identity and an appreciation for its history. Martinez is a hub of activity – there are more than a dozen parks within its twelve square mile area and there is a fine waterfront marina with fishing activities, hiking trails, youth programs and baseball and softball fields. Martinez is also home to several historical museums, including The Martinez Museum, which is housed in an 1890 Victorian cottage and features artifacts about the city’s history. Martinez is the birthplace of Joe DiMaggio, the famous New York Yankee baseball star of the 1930s and 1940s. Some Joe DiMaggio memorabilia, including his birth certificate, is on display at the Martinez Museum. An essential fact about Martinez, California is that Amtrak runs trains out of the city on a daily basis, making Martinez easily accessible in terms of transportation. These trains run anywhere you want; you can end up in Chicago or in Oregon. People of all ages will enjoy the things Martinez has to offer.
