Recreational opportunities abound in Pleasanton, CA. There is the large Shadow Cliffs Regional Park with lake and swim complex. There is also one of the largest sports parks in all of Northern California. Soccer is a popular activity for young and old and soccer season kicks off with a parade down Main Street.
Pleasanton, CA is home of the Alameda County Fairgrounds which originated in 1859 as a floral fair. The first modern fair was in 1939. The fair has the oldest one mile horse race track in the United States (1858) and each year the fair features live horse racing. Fair dates are typically early July of each year. The grounds are also available to various groups throughout the year where a number of wonderful community events are held.
Pleasanton is also the location chosen for many motion pictures starting with Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm starring Mary Pickford. Incorporated in 1894, Pleasanton is 335 feet above sea level and has approximately 14 inches of rainfall each year with a mean daily maximum temperature of 89 degrees and a mean daily minimum of 37 degrees.
