Pleasanton, California is an old town with new ideas, incorporated in 1894. Located at the intersection of Interstate 580 and 680, the freeways brought a boom to the town in the way of housing. Called the “Jewel of the Amador Valley,” Pleasanton offers lush rolling hills, a warm community spirit, attractive housing options, and convenient rapid transit connections to major Bay Area employment centers. Residents today are voting to preserve open space and slow down development.
Housing is varied. In the downtown area are older quaint period homes, and as one moves outward, the homes become larger and newer. Ruby Hill, one of the newer developments in the area, offers grand homes within a gated country club environment.
Pleasanton offers a variety of commute and employment options. Hacienda Business Park is a modern business park and headquarters for several national firms. For those working outside town, the Pleasanton Dublin BART is a popular rapid transit alternative. The Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) train links Stockton and San Jose with a stop in Pleasanton.
Visitors are attracted to the area to visit local wineries as well as the county fairgrounds. The summertime county fair features a large midway, horse racing, name entertainment and exhibits to satisfy any taste. Other events are featured at the fairground year round including dog shows, Scottish festival and RV show. Shopping is diverse from the regional mall at Stoneridge to many quaint and charming boutiques and restaurants found in the downtown area.
