About Solano County, CaliforniaLocated Northeast of San Francisco, Solano is a county of flat lands and gentle hills that over the last 35 years has changed itself from farming and industry into homebuilding and suburbia. This has greatly increased the population and changed the orientation of the residents. Instead of working at local pursuits, many residents commute to jobs in San Francisco, Sacramento, and the East Bay area.
The cities of Fairfield, Vacaville, Benicia, Rio Vista, Vallejo and Dixon comprise the bulk of the county's major urban developments. All of Solano's cities reflect the strong agricultural identity of the region. From an industrial standpoint, the inevitable growth of this area can be witnessed first-hand by traveling along the bustling I-80 corridor.
Lake Solano Park, west of the town of Winters, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting a plenitude of recreational opportunities, including fly fishing, boating, camping, swimming, hiking and bird watching. Each year hundreds of candy enthusiasts flock to Fairfield to visit the Jelly Belly Visitor Center, which features free jelly bean samples and factory tours. For those over 21, the Fairfield Anheuser Busch Brewery opens its doors, letting visitors in on the secrets of their Budweiser brews while enjoying free samples. Six Flags Marine World of Vallejo, a combination wildlife park, aquarium and theme park, is also another one of the county's major tourist attractions. Visitors can also learn about Solano County's history at any one of the county's museums.
Solano is still building, land prices remain lower than found elsewhere, and the county is especially interested in attracting jobs to build local prosperity and cut the commute for its local residents. Solano County is a rapidly growing Bay area community and is famous for its affordable housing, mild weather, nearby educational opportunities, business growth, and for its broad assortment of leisure activities.
