What do you think of when you hear the words “The Hidden Jewel”? A sequel to a Danny DeVito/Michael Douglas movie? If you ask the residents of this community, they will all tell you: The Hidden Jewel means only one thing: VILLA PARK!
The city of Villa Park was incorporated in 1962, but had originally been established as the city of Mountain View in the 1860’s. It boasts approximately 6,500 residents and most all are involved in its community events, from hosting its annual Pancake Breakfast, or the annual “Boat Parade”, no one here is a stranger! Just ask Kevin Costner who graduated from Villa Park High School in 1973! This is a city where community involvement is active and always moving forward. City Council members are elected and serve 4 year terms, and willingly serve them, without pay. They meet the fourth Tuesday of the month and resident participation is encouraged. The Villa Park Women’s League (established in 1969), is open to its residents and provide support, friendship and focus to the locals, as well as sponsoring golf, bowling and other events.
Villa Park is not only lush and green with lots of foliage, but it is ECO-FRIENDLY with a citywide recycling program! Volunteering is not a lost art, and it shows here in Villa Park. Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross go part and parcel with this city’s “WE CAN DO IT” attitude! If you’re up to the challenge and volunteering and community involvement is your thing, you should consider Villa Park!
