Two well-known neighborhoods in Boulder, CO have landed spots as the best U.S. neighborhoods in two different lifestyles magazines: Boulder’s Mapleton Hill community, with its colonial-style homes; and the Holiday development area, known for its ultra-urban appeal and affordability.
This Old House magazine named the 650 homes in the Mapleton Hill neighborhood as one of the 50 best places to purchase a historic home in the U.S. The publication looked at the craftsmanship, architectural diversity of homes, preservation momentum and amenities. The magazine chose a neighborhood in each of the 50 states, with Mapleton Hill being the top Colorado choice. The magazine also recognized the environmentally friendly aspects of the neighborhood, including the incorporation of eco-driven remodeling practices.
Cottage Magazine ranked the Holiday neighborhood as the 7th best neighborhood in the country in its annual “Top 10 Neighborhoods” edition. Their ranking took into account the homes, their cottage appeal, the people, and innovation in building. Boulder’s Holiday neighborhood was also chosen for its #1 appeal: affordability. Of the 333 units, 138 are designated as affordable housing units. The urban community was one of the first of its kind in Boulder, and features walkable streets, community businesses, bike paths and transit stops.
