Real Town, Real People. Breckenridge, Colorado is just that. A truly authentic Colorado mountain town, and in 2009 it is celebrating its 150th anniversary. The town has gone from boom of the Gold Rush days, to bust after the mines shut down, to boom again with White Gold, the advent of skiing.
Breckenridge offers world class Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding, with 2,358 acres of terrain. There are four mountains that have everything from the gentle green beginner runs, to the most challenging double black diamonds. There are continuous talks with the Forest Service about expanding the ski area to include Peak 6. If the ski slopes aren’t a place that you find yourself, there are a number of other winter activities. Enjoy the outdoors while Nordic skiing, snow shoeing, or skating on either an indoor or outdoor NHL sized rink.
Summertime is what all the locals look forward too. Many locals say they came for the winter, but stayed for the summer. Breckenridge can boost about having the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Public Golf Course in the world. The ball really sails at 9,300 ft. in altitude. Combine that with hiking, biking (mountain bike trails and an incredible paved bike path system that takes you around the all Summit County and over to Vail), fishing and rafting. It is no problem to keep busy during the long sunny days. Warm days and cool nights make Breckenridge a wonderful place to spend the summer.
There are various arts and crafts fairs along with many other events, such as the famers market on Sunday afternoons. Also, the National Reparatory Orchestra and the Breckenridge Music Festival are hosted in Breckenridge during June, July and August. These are two incredible orchestras that perform in our performing arts complex. The Blue River Series also brings in many other performers. You will never be without something to do.
The town itself is an old mining town that has kept its charm and character. Victorian buildings, both old and new line Main Street. Shopping is a favorite pastime, and the restaurants and bars have something for everyone. From basic burgers, pizza and beer, to white table cloth fine dining. There is something to satisfy any culinary palate.
Breckenridge is a fantastic town to live in, retire, vacation or just come up for a day. We are only about 1 ½ hours from Denver. It is a very easy to walk around town, or enjoy the free shuttle buses that service the entire county. Real Town, Real People. Breckenridge, Colorado.
