Westminster, CO AttractionsToday Westminster has a population of just over 100,000 people and is a desirable relocation destination due to its central location within the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area. Residents of Westminster enjoy a variety of attractions in and near the city, including heritage landmarks, arts, theater, shopping, dining, family attractions and outdoor recreation. For history buffs, Westminster preserves a large number of historic buildings that are open to the public, such as the Bowles House Museum and the Westminster Castle (also referred to as the Pillar of Fire building), as well as regional agricultural landmarks, such as the Rodeo Super Market (the first in Westminster) and the Charles and Julia Semper Farm, established in 1881 near the historic Cherokee Trail. Adults and children alike can be part of Westminster’s arts and theater community, which is served by the North Metro Arts Alliance, providing a free concert series, public artwork, and a variety of theatrical performances year-round. Residents of Westminster also have access to a large number of theaters and art galleries in Denver, including the Denver Art Museum. For shopping, dining, and family entertainment, Westminster boasts over 40 shopping districts in and near the city. The Westminster Promenade is a popular outdoor pedestrian retail center that features small performance areas, fountains, sculptures, a lake and trails for the public to enjoy. Other major shopping attractions near Westminster are the Flatirons Crossing Mall in Broomfield and the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. In addition to the city’s selection of historic landmarks, arts, and entertainment, Westminster and the surrounding area offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Within Westminster is a trail and open space system, including the Big Dry Creek Trail that extends 10 miles, as well as smaller trails, lakes, and ponds. Within a two-hour drive from Westminster are Colorado Springs, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Estes Park, as well as popular ski resorts including Vail and Copper Mountain.
