For the amateur sports enthusiast, Charlottesville offers multiple recreational leagues including rugby, kickball and volleyball. Multiple golf courses are found and are is another local favorite with various courses in the area. Music and the arts are well patronized in Charlottesville with a number of venues offering plays, concerts and productions. The John Paul Jones area opened in 2006 and was preceded by the Charlottesville Pavilion on the downtown mall, the Paramount Theater and Live Arts. The history buff will love seasonal visits to Monticello, Ash-Lawn Highland or nearby Montpelier, home of Presidents Jefferson, Monroe and Madison; respectively.

Shopping and dining opportunities abound! Charlottesville is home to over 400 restaurants boasting foods for every palate to savor! The main shopping destinations in town include the Fashion Square Mall, Barracks Road Shopping Center, the Corner district and the historic Downtown Mall.

The greater Central Virginia area is becoming known for its wineries. Popular daytrips include visiting parts of the Monticello Wine Trail, which maps the routes to over 20 vineyards. Hot air ballooning is also a local favorite with sunrise and sunset rides offered.
