City of Chesapeake, VA

As the most centrally located of all of the cities in South Hampton Roads, Chesapeake consists of a population of 218,968 residents and is known for its family-oriented lifestyle. The City of Chesapeake has been voted: Best City To Live and Raise A Family by MONEY Magazine. Due to its blend of urban and rural settings, the city has an abundance of shopping from well known retailers offering an array of retailers to choose from. Due to its proximity to the deep-water, there are plenty of public boat docks, water sports, parks and golf. Chesapeake is also the home of the well know Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. The park offers 55,000 acres of unspoiled natural beauty.

The State of Virginia Public School System has a standardized testing program, Standards Of Learning (SOL). Each school, all grade levels, are tested with the same test at the same time throughout the state. Schools are provided the average score per grade level and there is a pass/fail. Those schools that have passed are accredited and receive state funding. Those that have not are put on probation and if failure occurs a second time, the school loses state funding.

The City of Chesapeake School system has a total of 29 elementary schools, 10 middle schools and 7 high schools. The city received 100% accreditation from the state. Further scores and information on each school can be found at: www.cpschools.com/index.php.

The city was established in 1963 and has a newer community feel to it. There is a wide variety of housing to choose from. Single family, townhouses and condos. Planned communities, to “farmettes” (3-4 acres in a neighborhood and zoned for horses). One unique quality about the area is that due to being at sea-level, basements are not built. However our version of a basement is a FROG (finished room over garage). We use these rooms as spare bedrooms, offices or storage.

With the city’s low crime and southern charm anyone moving to Chesapeake will find it easy to call this place home.
