Welcome to Cornelius, NC

Cornelius is a suburb of Charlotte founded in 1893 by Joseph Benjamin Cornelius who funded the building of the cotton mill that established the town. This quaint town is made up of beautiful lakefront homes, antique shops, small boutiques, and brick sidewalks. Cornelius is made up of 2 main parts, the historical section, which is primarily east of Interstate 77, and the newer developments near Lake Norman along West Catawba Avenue.

The most exclusive development is Crescent Resources’ The Peninsula, located off Jetton Road, which has homes ranging in price from the $400,000s to over $3 Million. However, there are many developments that offer more affordable single-family homes. Victoria Bay is a new neighborhood with homes priced in the $200,000s with a community pool, clubhouse, tennis courts and walking trails.

The beauty of Cornelius is its small-town charm, which it has managed to keep while experiencing significant growth at the same time. You can experience a step back into time at the Oak Street Mill, which has an array of antiques, collectibles, and home accessories. The Oak Street Mill is set in a historic cotton mill and offers a large collection from over 60 dealers.

Not only does this town have upscale shopping, it also offers some of the best parks on Lake Norman. These parks include picnic sites, walking trails, docks, fishing piers, playgrounds, and numerous sporting fields.

As for schools, the Cornelius population attends the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). According to Wikipedia, it is the second-largest school district in North Carolina and the 20th largest in the nation. Today, over 20,000 people call Cornelius home.
