Odessa, Delaware, is located on Route 13 along the Appoquinimink River in southern New Castle County. Odessa is 20 miles south of Wilmington and is just east of Middletown.
Founded in the 1600s, this small town was once a hub for the grain-shipping trade. After the introduction of the railroad in nearby Middletown, Delaware, the town's industry suffered and many of the homes fell into disrepair.
The 1940s marked a resurgence of interest in preserving the 18th & 19th Century architecture in Odessa. Now most of the buildings in town are maintained by the Historic Foundation of Odessa and the town's center is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Some local points of interests are Odessa Memorial Park, Old Drawyer's Church and the Corbit-Sharp House. Every year the Women's Club of Odessa hosts Christmas in Odessa which gives visitors a chance to tour many of the town's historic homes that have been decorated for the holidays.
