Welcome to Danbury, CT

Danbury, Connecticut is a small city of approximately 70,000 people. It is rich in cultural diversity and tradition keeping it on the “Ten Best List” cities of its size, year after year. Known also as the Hat City, for at one time it had more hat manufacturing plants than anywhere else in the world. Danbury is bordered by 6 smaller towns all with their own unique New England Charm. Danbury Hospital, the area's largest employer, boasts affiliation with Yale University and has recently opened a new specialized care unit for cancer as well as expanded its cardiac care facility. Western Connecticut State University has two campuses located here, providing affordable education to commuters as well as boarding students. Danbury is one of five towns that border Candlewood Lake, the state's largest manmade lake with over 70 miles of shoreline, providing year round water recreation. Each of these towns has its own beach and park. Other recreation sources include Richter Park, an 18-hole golf course, voted in the Top 5 Public Courses in CT, along with over 1900 acres of open space developed into 16 parks and playgrounds located throughout the city.

Danbury is home to Connecticut's largest shopping mall with Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Sears and JC Penney as its anchor stores. The city's 15 million square feet of industrial and office space help maintain a low unemployment rate and provide a tax base to keep property taxes at an affordable rate. Over 8,000 pupils are educated through out the city in 13 neighborhood elementary schools, one magnet school, two junior high schools, one technical high and one regular high school. There are also two private high schools as well as 5 religiously affiliated lower schools. Many of Danbury's residents live here because of its easy commute to lower Fairfield County, White Plains and Manhattan, whether by car or train, affordable housing and community oriented way of life.
