About Daniel Island, SC

Located within the city limits of Charleston, South Carolina, Daniel Island is one of America’s most prestigious master-planned communities. The island, named after Robert Daniell, who served as Colonial Governor of South Carolina and fought in the Revolutionary War, is actually located in Berkeley County and not contiguous with the Historic City of Charleston.

Believed to be more than 4500 years old, Etiwan, as it was called by the Native Americans who inhabited the island, Daniel Island has a rich and proud history. Timber, bricks and lime were Daniel Island’s chief resources and these were used to build masts and spars for trading ships as well as to construct some of the magnificent colonial homes in Old Charles Towne in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Recognized in 2007 by the Urban Land Institute for smart planning, the Island features traditional neighborhoods with a wide and diverse array of homes, townhomes and condos, Daniel Island is also resplendent with parks, rivers, creeks, marshfront vistas and more than 12 miles of walking trails. The Family Circle Cup which features ladies tennis and the Charleston Battery, an exciting soccer team, provide the Metro Charleston area with highly regarded professional sports. There are also two nationally ranked golf courses on the Island.

Daniel Island’s unique downtown area features a rapidly growing assortment of schools, churches, shops, restaurants, banks, medical and legal offices as well as other annual activities like festivals and special events. The median price range for Daniel Island homes is $445,000.00.
