Welcome to Danville, PA

The Susquehanna River played an important role in Danville, Pennsylvania’s early days – providing transportation to the trading post that was the first settlement. In the mid 1800s iron ore was discovered nearby and local iron mills began to manufacture the T rails that were used to build our country’s railroad industry.

With prosperity came growth, and the town flourished. Nationally renowned Geisinger Health System was built by Abigail Geisinger during this time to honor her successful iron-manufacturing husband. Geisinger continues today to be a major healthcare facility and employer to a large geographic area. As a teaching hospital, Geisinger trains specialists and advances the use of cutting edge technology throughout the nation with each new graduating class of doctors.

Cherokee Pharmaceuticals is the area’s second premier employer. Cherokee is an active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturer who has been an industry leader in chemical manufacturing for 55 years. Employing highly skilled and experienced craftsmen, Cherokee adds depth to the talent base of our area workforce.

Danville, Pennsylvania’s past can still be seen today in the lovely downtown area - in the architecture of the buildings that house the shops, the restaurants and offices, and in the lines of stately older homes. Outside of town are the developments with newer styles and larger homes. The market is stable. Other river towns and employers are easily accessible by major roads and are close by. It’s easy and practical to be a resident of the entire beautiful Susquehanna Valley.
