Welcome to Dexter, MichiganDexter, Michigan is a growing village located eight miles west of Ann Arbor and has a population of about 4,000. Although its residents depend to a large degree on the amenities and attractions of Ann Arbor, Dexter has a wonderful downtown featuring a variety of shops and restaurants, and the village park which is home to the wildly popular “Dexter Daze” celebration every August. Another of Dexter’s attractions is the 110-year-old Dexter Cider Mill, located on the banks of the Huron River. Dexter is the jumping-off point to the area’s dozens of lakes and three major metroparks situated along the Huron River. Throughout the year, people from across the greater Ann Arbor area are in and around Dexter, taking advantage of all the outdoor recreation opportunities. As in other communities around Ann Arbor, many of Dexter’s residents find their employment outside of Dexter. However, among the companies calling Dexter home are Creative Solutions, printer Thomson-Shore (the principal printer of the works of Pope Benedict XVI), and Colorbok.
Like the other small towns surrounding Ann Arbor, a variety of housing types are found in Dexter. The village center holds frame homes dating from the mid-1800s and early 1900s. At the edges of the village, several new developments have sprung up over the past eight to ten years. Condominiums can be found as well. Average single family home price is $261,262; average condominium price is $162,850. | More Local Area InformationDexter is a village in Washtenaw County, just outside the greater Ann Arbor area, with a population of 2,338 people (according to the 2000 census)...
