The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce is well known throughout Florida The population of Lakeland proper is 93,000 plus. George Jenkins was the founder of The Publix Grocery Chain and continues to be home base for Publix Headquarters. The community of Lakeland benefits greatly from the many interests the Publix Foundation sponsors.

Florida Southern College, a private Methodist Collect is located in Lakeland. There are more Frank Lloyd Wright buildings on that campus than any other location in the world. The Historical Society of Lakeland has maintained integrity of the many historical sites which include two hotels and many residences.

The City of Lakeland is very progressive in futuristic planning The most recent endeavor is a community recreation area called Common Grounds which is a playground for all children regardless of physical restrictions. The playground opened early is 2009 and is one of the most enjoyed parks.

The annual Sun-n-Fun is the second largest air show in the world and is held in the Spring. The downtown area is a popular shopping and gathering place. Quaint shops, restaurants, antique district, Munn Park with evening Pop Concerts provide opportunities and cultural experiences for all ages. All shops are open the First Friday of each month with special street entertainers from face painters, guitar players depending on the theme of the evening.
