Fernandina Beach residents have taken pride and care to restore classic historical homes to their original beauty. Many of the homes clustered near the quaint downtown area are Victorian style, with intricate gingerbread and scrollwork. Many of the larger homes are operated as bed and breakfast inns, contributing to Fernandina Beach’s growing popularity as a weekend getaway spot.
Unique shops, restaurants and cafes line the town’s picturesque Centre Street, which dead ends at the water. A landmark in Fernandina is the Palace Saloon, built in 1878 and reputed to be the oldest in the state. Fernandina celebrates spring each year with the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in May.
Some new construction is available in Fernandina, including a planned community called Amelia Park. Envisioned in the new urbanism tradition of the Seaside community on Florida’s panhandle, Amelia Park offers a variety of traditional home styles with all the convenience and ambiance of an old-fashioned neighborhood.
